FTI Consulting announcement, Executive Moves

FTI Consulting, the global business advisory firm, has appointed Oliver Williams as Head of its Strategic Communications segment in the Middle East, effective July 2, 2024. The appointment reinforces the consulting firm's regional expansion strategy as it capitalizes on surging demand from multinational corporations seeking to establish or grow their presence in the Gulf Cooperation Council markets. Williams, a Senior Managing Director who has been with FTI since 2008, will lead business strategy for the segment across the region while supporting the firm's wider expansion efforts to serve international clients operating in the market.

The appointment comes as part of FTI's accelerated investment in the Middle East. Mark McCall, Global Leader of the Strategic Communications segment globally, noted that significant opportunities abound as many global leaders focus intently on entering or expanding their Middle East presence. Vikas Papriwal, Head of FTI Consulting Middle East, highlighted the region's rapid evolution and the corresponding growth in clients' communications needs and challenges. Williams himself emphasized that the Middle East represents an increasingly critical nexus for business, signaling his enthusiasm to elevate the firm's capabilities in the region. No external search firm involvement was disclosed in the appointment process.

Williams brings extensive experience in cross-border communications, having spent his first years at FTI helping launch the firm's London Energy and Low Carbon practice from 2008 onwards. Between 2014 and 2019, he was seconded to FTI's US Energy and Natural Resources practice, where he developed and executed complex advocacy programs aimed at influencing federal policy. During his Washington, D.C. tenure, he led campaigns that successfully impacted federal regulations across offshore development, US liquefied natural gas exports, and Securities and Exchange Commission corporate governance matters. His background also includes parliamentary experience in the European Parliament and the House of Commons. Williams holds a degree from the University of Exeter and has advised organizations on integrated advocacy campaigns, regulatory uncertainty, investment attraction, and reputation building through stakeholder engagement.

FTI Consulting is a global business advisory firm with over 8,000 employees across 33 countries and territories. The firm generated 3.49 billion dollars in revenues during fiscal year 2023. The Strategic Communications segment provides financial communications, corporate reputation, public affairs, and crisis management services. In the Middle East specifically, FTI has demonstrated notable momentum, recently relocating to larger Dubai premises and opening offices in Abu Dhabi and Doha in 2023, plus establishing a Riyadh operation in 2022. The segment has secured significant mandates including advisory roles on Parkin's record-breaking initial public offering on the Dubai Financial Market and Modern Mills Company's historic initial public offering on the Saudi Exchange's main market.

The timing of Williams' appointment suggests FTI is positioning itself to capture growing demand as Gulf-based and international clients grapple with increasingly complex communications challenges in a rapidly transforming region. His deep expertise in energy sector advocacy and policy work appears particularly well-suited to FTI's client base in the Gulf, where energy companies and government-linked entities dominate transaction activity and strategic advisory mandates. The promotion from within the organization underscores FTI's confidence in developing regional leadership internally rather than recruiting externally, a pattern increasingly common among major consulting firms expanding into emerging markets.
