Boston Mutual Life Insurance Company has appointed Jack Douglas as Executive Vice President of Distribution, effective June 8, 2026. Douglas will oversee the insurer's sales division and lead efforts to drive growth through broker partnerships across workplace insurance, life, accident, disability, and critical illness products. The appointment underscores Boston Mutual's strategic focus on strengthening its distribution network to serve union members, municipal employees, first responders, teachers, and small businesses.
Grant D. Ward, Sr., President and Chief Executive Officer at Boston Mutual, said the company is "excited to welcome Jack to Boston Mutual Life" and praised his "strong background of leadership, market knowledge, and sales growth" as valuable to the firm's distribution strategy. No search firm involvement was disclosed in the appointment announcement. Douglas brings more than 30 years of insurance and sales leadership experience, including deep expertise in worksite insurance and a documented track record of driving sales expansion.
Douglas most recently served as Executive Vice President of Worksite Sales at Assurity in Lincoln, Nebraska, a mutual insurance company where he led a team that achieved four consecutive years of double-digit sales growth. Earlier in his career, he held leadership roles at Allstate Benefits, Colonial Life, and Unum, gaining extensive regional and developmental expertise across the voluntary benefits and group insurance sectors. He holds a bachelor of arts degree in mathematics from The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, where he is an inductee to the Athletic Hall of Fame. Beyond his corporate roles, Douglas has been active in community governance, serving as a board member for Educare Lincoln and on the Board of Counselors at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
Boston Mutual Life Insurance Company was founded in 1891 and is headquartered in Canton, Massachusetts, with a second corporate office in Omaha, Nebraska. The mutual insurer serves over 135 years of customers and maintains approximately 732,000 individuals with more than $18 billion in life insurance in force. As a mutual company, it is owned by policyholders rather than outside shareholders. In 2025, the company achieved significant operational milestones through its Vision 2025 initiative, modernizing its policy administration system and launching BML Connect, its new platform designed to accelerate customer service and sustainable sales growth.
Douglas's appointment reflects Boston Mutual's strategic priority to expand distribution capabilities amid an evolving insurance market. The addition of an executive with his breadth of worksite insurance expertise and proven sales management background suggests the company is positioning itself to compete more aggressively in workplace benefits, a core growth area for mutual insurers. His track record at Assurity, where his division outpaced industry growth during challenging market conditions, indicates Boston Mutual expects accelerated sales momentum under his leadership, though the timing of this hire also suggests the company may be addressing gaps in its distribution operation that require experienced, externally-sourced talent.
