John Butler will become Chief Executive Officer of Linesight, the Dublin-based global construction consultancy, effective from the beginning of 2027. Butler succeeds Paul Boylan, who transitions to Group CEO of the broader IPS-Integrated Project Services holding company that encompasses Linesight, IPS, and Springtide. The move signals continuity in leadership as the 2,500-person Linesight unit pursues accelerated international expansion after nearly doubling headcount and revenue growth since Boylan assumed the top role in 2021.
Butler's appointment represents an internal succession, marking a deliberate strategic choice that emphasizes client relationship continuity during a period of rapid organizational change. The 25-year Linesight veteran began his career as a graduate trainee and has held leadership roles spanning the UK, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific markets. Over the past fifteen years, Butler built Linesight's APAC and Middle East division from a small team into a regional powerhouse of over 600 employees across ten offices and eight markets, delivering more than 200 data centre projects across 15 countries. The region now serves four of the ten largest technology companies in the Fortune Global 500 list. Boylan characterized Butler as possessing deep business understanding and experience scaling operations across international markets, qualities he deemed essential for the next phase of growth. The transition includes Scott Halyday, who has been with Linesight since 2018, succeeding Butler as Managing Director of APAC and the Gulf Cooperation Council region.
Butler has spent 25 years at Linesight, which was established in Dublin in 1974. The appointment was announced on 30 September 2026. He has worked extensively with the company's largest multinational clients across cost management, project controls, programme management, and project management services. The company serves data centre, life sciences, high-tech industrial, and commercial real estate sectors, with capabilities spanning cost management, scheduling, risk mitigation, and procurement services. Professional credentials and qualifications suggest Butler holds relevant construction industry designations that reinforce his technical expertise in project controls and delivery management.
Linesight, founded in 1974, has evolved into one of the construction industry's leading independent consultancies. Under Boylan's leadership from 2021 onwards, the company expanded from 20 offices and 700 employees to 44 offices across 30 countries with more than 2,500 staff. Annual revenue growth has consistently ranged between 15 and 24 percent. The firm is now part of IPS-Integrated Project Services, which itself is owned by Berkshire Hathaway. The broader IPS group encompasses over 4,500 employees generating approximately $2 billion in annual net revenue. Linesight's client base includes multinational corporations in high-growth sectors including semiconductor manufacturing, pharmaceutical production, and hyperscale cloud infrastructure, with particular strength in Asian-Pacific markets where data centre and life sciences investment continues to accelerate.
Butler's appointment reflects industry trends favoring internal promotion and organizational stability in professional services at a time when client relationships and operational knowledge carry substantial competitive weight. The construction consultancy sector increasingly prioritizes leadership continuity, particularly when companies pursue aggressive geographic expansion and sector diversification. Linesight's forecasted double-digit revenue growth trajectory over the next three years suggests the incoming CEO will inherit a business with favorable market tailwinds from sustained infrastructure investment in data centres and life sciences, particularly across Asia-Pacific. Whether Butler can sustain Boylan's growth trajectory while managing the complexity of a geographically dispersed 2,500-person organization remains to be tested, though his quarter-century tenure and track record building regional operations provide substantive operational credentials for the role.
