Tom Geraghty, CEO of Marsh Europe

Marsh has appointed Tom Geraghty as chief executive officer of Marsh Europe, effective November 1, marking the latest in a series of internal promotions at the global professional services firm. The Galway-born executive, who will be based in Dublin and report to Flavio Piccolomini, CEO of Marsh International, will set the strategic direction for Marsh's European region and strengthen collaboration across its businesses. Geraghty replaces Christos Adamantiadis, who has been elevated to the newly created position of president and global head of placement and market solutions at Marsh Risk, signalling a significant reorganisation of the firm's leadership architecture.

The appointment underscores Marsh's preference for homegrown talent in filling senior regional roles. Adamantiadis himself was promoted internally from his position as CEO of Continental Europe in 2023 before taking the helm of Marsh Europe in March of that year. A statement from Piccolomini characterised Geraghty as a highly experienced leader with a strong track record of building teams and services across diverse markets. No external search firm was mentioned in connection with the appointment. The broader reshuffle includes the retirement of John Donnelly, president of global placement, who will step down at the beginning of 2027 after a 50-year career in insurance.

Geraghty brings more than 27 years of tenure at Marsh and 33 years of experience in professional services, having spent the majority of his career across consulting, investments and commercial growth. He previously served as president of Mercer for Europe, a sister business within Marsh McLennan, providing him with cross-functional experience within the same regional leadership structure he now inherits on the broking side. He earned both bachelor's and master's degrees in business from Dublin City University and previously worked as a vice president at Bank of New York Mellon before joining Mercer in 2000. Geraghty will continue in his concurrent role as president of Marsh's People and Investments business in Europe, a position he has held since 2019, combining two senior responsibilities under a single executive.

Marsh and McLennan Companies is a New York-headquartered professional services firm with trailing 12-month revenue of approximately $27.9 billion as of mid-2026. The firm operates across four major divisions: Marsh, Guy Carpenter (now Marsh Re), Mercer (recently rebranded under the Marsh umbrella), and Oliver Wyman. The company underwent a significant branding transition in January 2026, consolidating its businesses under the unified Marsh brand following an announcement in October 2025. Europe remains a strategically important region for Marsh, with the firm having opened a new head office in Dublin in early September, coinciding with broader initiatives to centralise and streamline its European operations and enhance client service integration.

The appointment reflects Marsh's disciplined approach to succession planning at regional level, preferring to develop leaders through internal career progression rather than external recruitment. This pattern suggests confidence in the executive pipeline and may indicate that the firm views its European leadership challenges as operational integration matters rather than requiring external industry expertise. However, the dual role combining Europe CEO responsibilities with the People and Investments presidency could signal either a temporary holding pattern pending further reorganisation or a strategic choice to tightly integrate people-related and risk services strategy at the regional level. The November 1 effective date coincides with Adamantiadis's transition to his global placement role, ensuring continuity through a structured handover period in a region that accounts for material revenue contribution to the parent company.
