Alujain Corporation, the Saudi Arabian petrochemicals and industrial conglomerate, has reappointed Khalid bin Mohammed Al Dawood as chief executive officer effective September 29, 2026, a week after he initially resigned following his mandatory retirement. The move signals board confidence in Al Dawood's industrial expertise at a critical juncture for the Riyadh-based company as it expands petrochemical production capacity and manages portfolio investments in the energy sector.

Al Dawood reached the statutory retirement age on September 14 and subsequently resigned, prompting the board to appoint Mohammed bin Khalid Al-Mutairi as interim chief executive on September 13. That arrangement lasted just over two weeks. On September 24, the board decided to end Al-Mutairi's assignment and bring Al Dawood back, with Al-Mutairi retaining his position as vice president of administrative affairs. The company had agreed with Al Dawood to rehire him within 15 days of his resignation date, following a brief break in service, according to regulatory filings on Tadawul, the Saudi exchange.

Al Dawood brings more than three decades of industrial leadership to the role, having previously held senior positions at major regional energy companies. He started his career as a process control and senior instrumentation engineer at Saudi Aramco Shell Refinery and later served as senior reliability and asset management consultant at Shell Global Solutions in the Netherlands. He subsequently held roles as engineering and facility planning manager at MARAFIQ, vice president at Alpha Projects Company and director of economics, planning and marketing at Saudi Arabian Mining Company. In 2016, Al Dawood founded the Energy Efficiency Era Company to pioneer energy management services in Saudi Arabia. He has served as managing director of National Petrochemical Industrial Company, a major Alujain subsidiary, since 2020. Educationally, he holds a master's degree in business administration from the University of Hull and a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from King Saud University.

Alujain Corporation, established in 1991 and listed on the Saudi exchange with a capital of 692 million Saudi riyals (approximately 185 million dollars), operates across petrochemicals, mining, metals and energy sectors. The company operates two primary business segments, manufacturing petrochemical products and home care products, and holds substantial stakes in subsidiaries including National Petrochemical Industrial Company and Zain Industries. In January 2024, Alujain sold a 35 percent stake in its National Petrochemical Industrial Company subsidiary to LyondellBasell for approximately 500 million dollars, marking a major portfolio transaction. The company has positioned itself as a vehicle for developing large-scale industrial projects aligned with Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 industrialisation goals.

Al Dawood's reappointment reflects the board's assessment that continuity in executive leadership outweighs formal retirement provisions in the current operating environment. Observers might infer that the stability provided by retaining an executive with deep relationships across Alujain's subsidiaries and long-standing ties to regional energy industry stakeholders justifies the accommodation of his return. The brief interim leadership under Al-Mutairi suggests the board moved quickly to resolve the succession uncertainty rather than testing the capabilities of an internal successor, which could indicate either strong confidence in Al Dawood's remaining runway or limited readiness among junior executives for the top role. The statutory retirement protocol appears flexible enough to allow post-retirement engagement, a pragmatic approach that some corporate governance frameworks increasingly accommodate to retain scarce executive talent in the region.
