Peter M. O’Rourke Sr.

Peter M. O'Rourke Sr. was appointed Acting Secretary of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in 2018, where he led over 380,000 employees and oversaw one of the largest federal healthcare and benefits systems in the country, with an annual budget exceeding $180 billion at the time. Before becoming Acting Secretary, O'Rourke served as VA Chief of Staff from February 16, 2018, where he was instrumental in helping secure passage of the VA Mission Act of 2018. He holds a degree in political science from the University of Tennessee in 1998 and earned a Master of Science in logistics, materials and supply chain management from the Air Force Institute of Technology in 2005. He holds a Department of Defense Top Secret SCI Security Clearance (inactive).
