ACWA Power, Saudi Arabia's leading renewable energy developer, appointed Yazeed bin Abdulrahman Al-Humaid as Vice Chairman on April 8, 2026, following the resignation of Raad bin Omar Al-Saadi from that position. Al-Saadi retained his role as Managing Director and executive board member. The appointment, effective immediately, marks a significant leadership transition at the Riyadh-headquartered utility operator as it expands its global portfolio across 15 countries.

The board decision came at a meeting held on April 8, with the formal announcement released to the Saudi Exchange (Tadawul) on April 9. The company statement provided no rationale for Al-Saadi's decision to step down from the vice chairmanship or specifics about the search process for his replacement. Al-Humaid will serve as Vice Chairman until the end of the current board term, scheduled for January 4, 2029. Market reaction was muted but negative; ACWA Power shares fell 2.59 percent following the announcement.

Al-Humaid brings 18 years of experience across financial, regulatory and investment management roles. He holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from King Saud University and completed executive management programs at London Business School. His career began in 2004 at PricewaterhouseCoopers as a senior consultant on financial due diligence for mergers and acquisitions, followed by positions at the House of National Consulting until 2008. From 2008 to 2015, he served at Saudi Arabia's Capital Market Authority (CMA), where he headed the Mergers and Acquisitions team and was seconded to work at the Malaysian Securities Commission and the UK financial regulatory body. Since 2015, Al-Humaid has held increasingly senior roles within the Public Investment Fund (PIF), including Chief of Staff from 2016 to 2021, and since 2021 Deputy Governor and Head of MENA Investments. He also serves as Vice Chairman of Tadawul Group and as an independent director on the boards of Saudi National Bank and STC.

ACWA Power, founded in 2004, has evolved into one of the world's largest renewable energy developers. The company operates or is developing 109 assets across 15 countries, with gross power capacity of 95.7 gigawatts, of which 52.3 GW is renewable. Water desalination capacity reaches 9.7 million cubic meters daily. Listed on Tadawul since October 2021, the company has a market value near USD 50 billion. PIF, the sovereign wealth fund, holds approximately 40 to 50 percent of ACWA Power and has mandated the company to lead 70 percent of Saudi Arabia's national renewable energy programme under Vision 2030 objectives. In the first half of 2026, ACWA Power reported SAR 455 billion in assets under management, though net profit declined due to project timing delays and geopolitical volatility affecting financial closures.

Al-Humaid's appointment reflects the integration of PIF's investment strategy with ACWA Power's governance, given his dual role at Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund and his extensive track record in regulatory matters and capital allocation. The timing appears calibrated to ACWA Power's significant expansion phase, with the company pursuing exclusive mandates to export green hydrogen and renewable electricity. Some analysts may view the retention of Al-Saadi as Managing Director while ceding the vice chairmanship as a partial separation of operational and governance responsibilities, though the board provided no formal explanation. The negative stock reaction suggests investor uncertainty about leadership continuity amid near-term financial headwinds, despite the company's long-term strategic positioning in global renewable energy transition.
