Alan Dillon

Alan Dillon was born on 28 September 1982 in Castlebar, County Mayo, and has been a Teachta Dála (TD) for Mayo since the 2020 general election. He currently serves as Minister of State at the Department of Enterprise, Tourism and Employment and Minister of State at the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment since January 2025, with special responsibility for small businesses and retail and the circular economy.

Dillon holds a Bachelor's degree (B.Sc.) in Applied Mathematics and Biology from Maynooth University, a Master's degree (M.Sc.) in Pharmaceutical Science from the RCSI and a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from NUIG, plus a post-graduate certificate in professional leadership.

Before entering political life, Alan built a successful career in the multinational life sciences sector, specialising in biologics and pharmaceutical drug manufacturing and medical devices. As a self-employed company director, he worked with many leading multi-nationals in the life sciences sector specializing in Pharma, Bio-Pharma and Medtech, providing validation consulting and engineering managed services for large capital projects and supporting clients on quality and regulatory compliance issues.

Dillon is a keen sportsman and two-time GAA All-Star who dedicated himself to Mayo GAA as a player and former captain for over 18 years. He served as Chair of the Fine Gael parliamentary party from October 2023 to April 2024, and previously held the post of Minister of State at the Department of Housing and Local Government with responsibility for planning and local government.
