What the event is
Web Summit Vancouver is the North American edition of the Web Summit technology conference series. The format is a main stage programme plus parallel tracks, a startup exhibition floor and structured investor and partner meetings, drawing technology company founders and executives, corporate buyers and venture investors.
For a board audience the draw is the concentration of growth stage technology companies and the venture community in one place, together with the main stage programme on artificial intelligence and platform strategy.
Why it matters to a board
Conferences of this kind are most useful to a board not as a source of vendors but as a read on where private capital is currently willing to go. The composition of the startup floor, and the sectors venture investors are showing up for, are a leading indicator of the competitive set that a listed incumbent will face in three to five years.
