Mining Indaba returns to Cape Town from the eighth to the eleventh of February. The year is 2027. The conference is held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, the venue commonly known as the CTICC, at 1 Lower Long Street.
What the event is
Mining Indaba is the dedicated investment conference for African mining, and the one fixture in the calendar where mining company boards, institutional investors and African mines and energy ministers are in the same building at the same time. The programme pairs ministerial and policy sessions with investor-facing content, including company presentations and capital raising and deal making tracks, alongside an exhibition of mining suppliers and technology providers.
The organiser, Hyve Group plc, brands the coming edition MI27 and describes it as the second chapter of a three year thematic arc. Figures published by the organiser for the event put attendance above 12,000 delegates, including more than 1,700 mining company executives and more than 1,600 global investors, with 38 African ministers and 700 speakers. The organiser does not state which edition those figures describe.
Why it matters to a board
The combination of African energy and mines ministers with a large institutional investor contingent is what gives the event its agenda setting function. Resource policy announcements, licensing frameworks and capital allocation signals for the continent are routinely made or tested here, which makes attendance a planning matter for any board with African resource exposure rather than a purely commercial one.
