Company Overview
National Bank of Oman is a commercial and retail bank headquartered in Muscat and was the first local bank established in Oman, founded in February 1973. It operates 66 branches in Oman and two branches in the United Arab Emirates, and runs an Islamic banking window under the Muzn brand. The bank has been listed on the Muscat Stock Exchange under the ticker NBOB since January 2002.
The bank has two anchor shareholders. Commercial Bank of Qatar holds 34.9 percent, acquired in around 2005 in what was described as the first cross border alliance between two GCC banks, and Suhail Salim Abdullah Al Mukhaini Bahwan holds 14.7 percent. Amal Suhail Bahwan serves as chairperson. Commercial Bank of Qatar offered in 2021 to acquire a further 15.2 percent, which would have taken it past majority control, but withdrew the offer in July 2021 after shareholder acceptances fell short of the minimum threshold. The bank remains independent.
National Bank of Oman reported net profit of 88.4 million dollars for the first half of 2025, up 10.3 percent year on year, with total assets up 10.9 percent over the same period.
