Synectics plc has appointed Peter Kear as Senior Independent Non-Executive Director, the AIM listed security, surveillance and operational intelligence company announced on 18 August 2026.

Kear's appointment took immediate effect and was announced alongside other changes to the Synectics board. Jon Kempster, who joined the board in July 2024, has been appointed Interim Chair, continuing in his existing role as Chair of the Audit Committee. Dr Alison Vincent CBE has taken over as Chair of the Remuneration Committee.

Kear is a public company director with experience across both AIM and Main Market companies, built through a career scaling technology businesses. He co-founded the company that became Celebrus Technologies plc, originally established as IS Solutions plc and later known as D4t4 Solutions plc, in 1985. He initially led sales and business development before becoming Chief Executive in 2016.

During his time as Chief Executive, Synectics said, Celebrus increased its market capitalisation from approximately 40 million pounds to approximately 160 million pounds, alongside growth in revenue and profitability. The business also increased its focus on proprietary software, international expansion, strategic partnerships and recurring revenues, moving from a perpetual licence model towards a predominantly annual recurring revenue model. Kear stepped down as Chief Executive of Celebrus in 2022.

He is currently Senior Independent Non-Executive Director of Franchise Brands plc, where he also chairs the Remuneration Committee and the Nomination Committee. Synectics disclosed that Kear, aged 71, does not hold any ordinary shares in the company.

Kear's appointment to the Synectics board follows the earlier departure from the role of Andrew Lockwood, who had joined the board in June 2022 and had chaired the Remuneration Committee. The board thanked Lockwood for his contribution during his tenure and wished him well.

Amanda Larnder, Chief Executive Officer of Synectics, said Kear's experience of building and scaling technology businesses, and his first hand experience of developing proprietary software and increasing recurring revenues, was particularly relevant to the next phase of the company's development. She said Synectics was continuing to execute a transformation strategy intended to build a scalable, product and partner led business capable of delivering growth from its 2027 financial year.

Kear said Synectics had a proven record of technology leadership in the global security and surveillance market, a clear growth strategy and exciting opportunities ahead, and that he was looking forward to supporting the board as the group continued to deliver against its transformation plan.
