Rasan Information Technology Company, the Saudi fintech and insurtech platform, has announced a management restructuring with co-founder Moayad Alfallaj transitioning from Chief Executive Officer to Chairman, while Nicola Garelli, the company's Deputy Chief Executive and Chief Strategy & Products Officer, has assumed the role of Acting CEO. The appointments reflect a governance shift at the publicly listed company as it scales operations across Saudi Arabia's financial technology ecosystem following its June 2024 listing on the Saudi Exchange.
The appointment of Alfallaj to the Chairman role represents a symbolic move for the entrepreneur who founded the company in 2016 and has steered it through a period of significant expansion. Garelli, a veteran executive with extensive experience at Boston Consulting Group and as a former CEO of insurance technology ventures, brings substantial leadership credentials to the operating role. The restructuring suggests the company is positioning its founder in a strategic and oversight capacity while delegating day-to-day management to an experienced operational executive.
Alfallaj brings over a decade of transformational leadership to the Chairman position, having built Rasan from a startup addressing Saudi Arabia's insurance sector inefficiencies into a multi-platform fintech powerhouse. Prior to founding Rasan, he held positions as Chief Operations Officer at Tameeni, an online insurance comparison platform, and later as Chief Business Development and Marketing Officer at Insurance House Company. He holds a postgraduate diploma in marketing communications from Middlesex University and a bachelor's degree in marketing from Anglia Ruskin University. Garelli, now Acting CEO, is an Italian-trained engineer with a PhD in Management, Economics and Industrial Engineering from Politecnico di Milano, who previously led digital ventures at Emirates National Oil Company, including Beema Insurance and Enoc Link, both built through BCG Digital Ventures partnerships.
Rasan is the Middle East's first fintech company to achieve public listing, with a market capitalization reflecting strong investor confidence in its business model. The company operates multiple platforms including Tameeni, Saudi Arabia's leading insurance aggregation platform; Treza, a digital motor leasing platform; Awalmazad, an online auto auction marketplace; and R3, a data analytics tool for leasing companies. The company reported record quarterly revenues in the first quarter of 2026, with adjusted EBITDA margins expanding significantly. Its business model spans motor retail, motor leasing, health insurance, and emerging product categories, serving consumers, financial institutions, insurance companies, and small and medium-sized enterprises across the Kingdom.
The appointment reflects a maturing governance structure typical of high-growth fintechs transitioning from founder-led operations to professionally managed teams. By moving Alfallaj to the Chairman role, Rasan appears to be leveraging his vision and board-level strategic oversight while vesting operational execution in Garelli, whose background in management consulting and digital venture building aligns with the company's expansion trajectory. This structure could be interpreted as a response to the complexities of scaling a publicly listed company with multiple product lines, regulatory considerations, and growth ambitions aligned to Saudi Vision 2030 objectives. Industry observers might view this as a sign of either enhanced institutional discipline or a potential shift in strategic direction, though the company has not disclosed the rationale for the changes.
