An Nuyttens, President of Flooring Rest of the World at Mohawk Industries

Mohawk Industries has appointed An Nuyttens as President of its Flooring Rest of the World segment, the division that contains the Unilin business, bringing in a thirty year Solvay executive from the chemicals industry.

The company said she takes up the role from mid October 2026. The same announcement confirmed Paul De Cock as Chief Executive of Mohawk from 30 September 2026, making this part of a coordinated leadership sequence rather than an isolated hire.

A chemicals executive moving into building products

Nuyttens spent three decades at Solvay, the Belgian chemicals group, a career length that in practice means she has run businesses through several industrial cycles. The move from specialty chemicals into flooring is less of a leap than it appears. Both are materials businesses where the economics turn on raw material input costs, manufacturing footprint utilisation and technical differentiation, and where customers buy on specification as much as on brand.

The Flooring Rest of the World segment covers Mohawk's operations outside North America and contains Unilin, the Belgian business known for laminate flooring technology and panel products. It is a manufacturing intensive segment exposed to European construction and renovation demand, and to the energy costs that feed directly into panel production.

Why the segment matters

Mohawk is the largest flooring manufacturer in the world by revenue, and its international segment has a different demand profile from its American operations. European renovation activity, new build volumes in continental markets, and energy pricing all move independently of the United States housing cycle, which makes the segment both a diversification and a distinct management challenge.

Appointing a leader from outside the flooring industry suggests the group is prioritising industrial and operational discipline over sector familiarity. In a business where a meaningful share of cost sits in energy intensive manufacturing, that emphasis is coherent.

Part of a wider reshuffle

The simultaneous confirmation of Paul De Cock as group chief executive is the more significant piece of the announcement for the company as a whole, and it explains the timing of this appointment: De Cock's elevation opens the segment leadership that Nuyttens fills. Coordinated announcements of this kind are how large industrial groups manage internal succession without leaving a leadership gap visible to customers or investors.

Nuyttens joins at a point when European building products demand has been subdued relative to the pandemic era renovation boom, which means her early mandate is more likely to concern cost structure and capacity utilisation than expansion.
