Lenovo has appointed Tareq Alangari as Senior Vice President and President of its Middle East, Turkey, and Africa (META) business, effective January 4, 2026, marking a significant leadership move as the Chinese technology giant deepens its regional footprint. The appointment positions Alangari to lead operations from Lenovo's recently established Regional Headquarters in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, a location central to the company's $2 billion expansion across a region spanning more than 60 markets where governments and enterprises are investing heavily in digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence, and cloud services.
Alangari joins Lenovo from e& enterprise Saudi Arabia, where he served as CEO and built the digital infrastructure business from its founding in 2020 into a regional leader in cloud computing, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and financial technology. Matt Zielinski, Lenovo's Executive Vice President and President of International Markets, described the appointment as instrumental to the company's regional transformation, emphasizing that META represents "some of the most dynamic markets globally, with significant investment in AI, cloud, and smart infrastructure." No executive search firm involvement was disclosed. The move reflects Lenovo's shift from positioning itself as a hardware supplier toward deeper participation in national digital transformation initiatives spanning Saudi Vision 2030, the UAE's digital strategy, Dubai Smart City, and Africa's continent-wide digitization efforts.
Alangari brings more than 25 years of leadership experience across telecommunications, cloud infrastructure, and digital enterprises. He holds an Executive Master in Change from INSEAD and an MBA from IE Business School with coursework in behavioral economics at Yale School of Management. His background includes strategic roles at major Saudi institutions, including the Capital Market Authority between 2010 and 2016, where he worked on corporate governance, and prior service at Mobily, Saudi Arabia's second-largest telecom operator, where he served as executive general manager and board secretary. His most recent position demonstrated his ability to build hyper-growth businesses; at e& enterprise Saudi, he launched the operation as the company's first employee and scaled it to serve government, enterprise, and consumer segments across cloud, AI, and smart city solutions aligned with Saudi Vision 2030.
Lenovo, a US$69 billion technology powerhouse ranked 196th on the Fortune Global 500, has made META a strategic priority. The company officially opened its Regional Headquarters in Riyadh's Majdoul Tower in April 2026, serving as the central hub for regional strategy and operations. The headquarters complements a 200,000-square-meter advanced manufacturing facility in partnership with ALAT, a subsidiary of Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, with annual production capacity reaching two million units. Lenovo is also constructing research and development centers, customer experience centers, and talent development programs. The company has invested over 2 billion riyals (approximately $532 million) to date, with the manufacturing facility expected to contribute up to $10 billion to Saudi Arabia's non-oil GDP by 2030 and create 15,000 direct and 45,000 indirect jobs.
Alangari's appointment appears strategically timed to operationalize this infrastructure. The move signals Lenovo's determination to embed itself within META's digital ecosystem rather than operate as an external vendor, explicitly anchoring the company to national technology agendas across the Middle East, Turkey, and Africa. Given the region's heavy government investment in cloud and AI infrastructure, and Alangari's track record scaling digital infrastructure businesses in Saudi Arabia, the appointment suggests Lenovo is positioning itself to capture enterprise and government contracts that will define regional technology spending over the next five years. The appointment also reflects confidence that Alangari's established relationships with Saudi government entities and regional telecom and technology leaders will accelerate market penetration and partnership formation across META's diverse but strategically aligned markets.
