Gold Hart Copper has appointed Alejandro Vasquez to its Technical Advisory Board, bringing in an operator whose career covers most of the largest copper mines in Chile.
The company announced the appointment on 7 October 2026. Vasquez was most recently Vice President of Operations and General Manager at Los Pelambres, the copper mine operated by Antofagasta Minerals. Before that he was Vice President for South America at Teck Resources, headed operations at the Escondida copper mine for BHP, and served as Vice President of Mining at Collahuasi. Earlier in his career he spent about twelve years with ExxonMobil in Chile and roughly a decade with Anglo American across its Chilean mines, where he led the El Soldado operation. He also ran BHP's Yandi iron ore operation in Australia, and he has taught for many years at the Universidad de Chile.
What an operator adds to an explorer
The distinction worth drawing is between geology and operations. An exploration company's board is usually weighted towards geologists and capital markets people, because finding the deposit and funding the search are the two things it does. What such a company typically lacks is anyone who has actually run a producing mine at scale, and that absence shows up later, in the assumptions a study makes about throughput, recovery, workforce and the cost of moving material.
Vasquez's record is almost entirely on the operating side, and specifically at the tier of asset that a copper discovery in the region would aspire to become. Adding him to a technical advisory board rather than to the board of directors is the appropriate structure for that contribution: the advisory seat is where technical judgement is brought to bear on studies and programmes without carrying the fiduciary load of a directorship.
The Chilean dimension
There is also a jurisdictional point. Chile remains the single largest source of mined copper, and the practical questions an explorer there faces are permitting, water, community agreement and power, none of which are solved by drilling. Someone who has held general manager responsibility for a major Chilean operation has dealt with all four, repeatedly, and with the regulators and communities involved.
Gold Hart Copper did not disclose the terms of the appointment, did not say how large its technical advisory board now is, and did not name the other members. It also did not state what specific programmes Vasquez will advise on.
His name appears as Alejandro Vasquez in the company's announcement and as Alejandro Vasquez Montero in Chilean press coverage of his earlier appointments. They are the same person.
