GlobalData Appoints Keywords Studios Finance Chief Rob Kingston to the Board as Chief Financial Officer

GlobalData has appointed Rob Kingston to its board as chief financial officer, completing a succession the data and analytics group set out earlier in the year.

The company confirmed the appointment in a regulatory announcement. Kingston joined the group at the start of September and worked alongside the outgoing chief financial officer Graham Lilley through a transition period before taking the role and the board seat. Lilley, who had been with the company since twenty eleven and chief financial officer from the beginning of twenty eighteen, stepped down from the executive role and resigned as a director on the same day.

Kingston was chief financial officer of Keywords Studios, the technical and creative services provider to the video games industry, which he joined in the middle of twenty twenty three. Before that he was chief financial officer of Flutter Entertainment in the United Kingdom and Ireland, and he spent twenty five years at Sky, where his roles included finance director of the content business, group director of investor relations and executive director to the group chief executive. He is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants.

The common thread in that record is subscription economics in media businesses, which is precisely what GlobalData sells. The company's revenue comes from recurring research subscriptions rather than from projects, and the metrics that determine its value are renewal rates, contract value growth and the cost of acquiring and retaining corporate clients. A finance chief who has run the numbers behind a pay television business and a betting platform has spent his career on the same questions in different clothes.

The timing matters as much as the profile. GlobalData has been reshaping its portfolio and its capital structure, and a transition at the top of finance in a company whose value rests on the durability of its subscriber base is the kind of change investors watch closely. Running the handover over most of a month, with the incoming and outgoing chief financial officers working alongside each other before the board seat changed hands, is the orderly version of that change rather than the abrupt one.

There is also a signal in recruiting from private rather than listed company finance. Keywords Studios left the public market, and executives who have worked through a take private carry recent experience of how a business is valued by buyers rather than by the daily market. For a company in GlobalData's position that is a useful perspective to have in the room.

Kingston takes the role with the group's next results due in the normal reporting cycle.
