Vishal Bhatia, Head of Alternatives and Strategic Partnerships at Cognit Capital

Cognit Capital (DIFC) Limited, a Dubai based independent wealth management firm, has appointed Vishal Bhatia as Head of Alternatives and Strategic Partnerships, in an appointment reported on 28 September 2026. The hire moves a senior wealth lending specialist out of a large international bank and into a boutique firm at a point when private market products are being marketed more aggressively to Gulf private clients.

Bhatia's remit spans alternatives and strategic partnerships and extends into wealth management, lending and credit solutions, a combination that mirrors the mix of investment structuring and balance sheet work he handled in his previous role. He joins with more than 16 years of experience across investments, credit and financial services. The announcement did not carry quotations from the firm's leadership or from Bhatia, did not specify a reporting line or team size, and named no external search firm. His arrival follows his departure from Standard Chartered Bank in September 2026.

Bhatia spent close to 16 years at Standard Chartered Bank, latterly as Regional Head of Wealth Management Lending and Mortgage Solutions for the United Arab Emirates and for the bank's Africa, Middle East and Europe region, a role he held from March 2023 until September 2026. Before that he was Director of Wealth Management Lending and Leverage Solutions for Africa and the Middle East from 2019, associate director for wealth management lending in the Middle East from 2014, and a manager in wealth management and priority banking re-engineering from 2010. He began his career in India at TCS e-Serve International Limited in Mumbai, working in business development and transitions from 2007, before joining Citibank as an assistant manager in business strategy and controls in 2009. He holds a postgraduate qualification in international business from Symbiosis International University and lists Level I of the CFA Institute programme among his qualifications.

Cognit Capital (DIFC) Limited describes itself as an independent wealth management firm regulated by the Dubai Financial Services Authority, founded by career private bankers and operating from the Dubai International Financial Centre, the emirate's financial free zone with its own regulator and common law courts. Its published services cover portfolio management, trust and foundation structures, private placements and deal structuring, multi family office administration, credit solutions, Shariah compliant investments and consolidated reporting, with client assets held at third party custodians in Switzerland, Singapore, London and the United Arab Emirates. The firm does not publish assets under management or headcount.

The appointment fits a visible pattern in Dubai, where independent firms inside the Dubai International Financial Centre have been recruiting from the international private banks that have long dominated Gulf wealth management, offering open architecture and product breadth in place of scale. Bhatia's own background is unusual for a head of alternatives: his career has been built in lending and leverage against wealth portfolios rather than in fund selection or private markets origination. The inference, which the firm did not state, is that Cognit Capital intends to pair private market allocations with financing, a combination that has become common in Gulf private client business. Because the firm publishes neither assets under management nor any record in alternatives, the scale of the mandate cannot be assessed from public information.
