Roland Janssen, Chief Commercial Officer of Borouge

Borouge, the polyolefins producer built from the petrochemical operations of ADNOC and Austria's OMV, has appointed Roland Janssen as chief commercial officer. The company confirmed the appointment on 10 September 2026, with Janssen due to take up the role on 1 October 2026 and to be based in Vienna.

Janssen succeeds Stefan Doboczky, who is leaving to pursue a new opportunity, in what the company described as an orderly handover of its commercial leadership. He joins the enlarged group that ADNOC and OMV have created by combining their polyolefins businesses into a single international producer.

A Dutch national, Janssen brings more than twenty five years of commercial and industry experience. He was most recently senior vice president for global sales and marketing, and has held senior roles at Borealis and across the wider group spanning Europe, the Middle East, Asia and the Americas. He sits on the board of the Singapore Chemical Industry Council and this year topped Forbes Middle East's ranking of the region's most influential chief marketing officers.

Borouge produces polyethylene and polypropylene, the plastics used in packaging, agriculture, infrastructure and healthcare, and supplies customers across the Middle East, Asia and Africa. The commercial role Janssen is taking on carries responsibility for sales, marketing and customer relationships at a time when the business is being reshaped by the merger of its parent companies' petrochemical arms.

The appointment lands as global petrochemical producers navigate weak margins, new capacity coming online in Asia and pressure to demonstrate the recyclability of their products. ADNOC and OMV have positioned the combined business as one of the largest polyolefins players outside China, and the commercial function will be central to defending market share and winning higher value specialty grades.

For Janssen, the move is a step up within a group he knows well, and it hands him the task of steering the commercial organisation through the integration while holding on to customers during a period of change across the industry.

Borouge counts among the larger polyolefins producers in the world and has been a significant presence on regional capital markets, and the integration of its operations with those of its parent groups has been one of the more closely watched consolidations in the sector. Bringing the commercial teams of the previously separate businesses under a single leader is a central part of that integration, and the choice of an insider with long experience of the group's customers and products is intended to limit disruption. Janssen will oversee pricing, distribution and key account relationships across regions where demand patterns differ sharply, from mature European markets to fast growing economies in Asia and Africa.
