Yousef Bin Abdullah Al-Shelash has been reappointed as non-executive Chairman of SHL Finance Company, the Saudi Arabian real estate finance firm, following board approval on February 20, 2026, according to filings with Saudi Central Bank authorities. The appointment obtained regulatory non-objection from the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) on March 8, 2026. Al-Shelash, a seasoned real estate and investment banking executive, assumes the chairmanship at a critical juncture for SHL, which listed on Saudi Arabia's Tadawul exchange in 2022 under ticker symbol 1183 and has since expanded its financial services portfolio.
Al-Shelash's reappointment caps a protracted governance process that commenced with SHL's initial public listing and reflects the board's confidence in his strategic leadership. Obaid Alrasheed was simultaneously reappointed as Vice Chairman in a non-executive capacity. The appointments remain subject to formal SAMA approval, a requirement underscoring the stringent regulatory oversight governing Saudi financial services companies. No external search firm engagement was disclosed in connection with the reappointment.
Al-Shelash brings four decades of experience across investment banking, real estate development, and strategic planning. He founded Dar Al Arkan Real Estate Development Company in 1994, establishing it as Saudi Arabia's largest residential developer and later serving as its Chairman. Since 2004, he has held the position of Chairman at Bank Alkhair BSC, a Bahrain-based institution. Al-Shelash holds a Master of Science in Law and Legal Procedures from the Institute of Public Administration in Riyadh and a Bachelor of Science in Shariah from Mohammed Bin Saud Islamic University. He has completed extensive professional training in investment project evaluation and financial management, alongside certifications in combating financial crimes and banking practices.
SHL Finance Company, established in December 2007 as Saudi Home Loans Company before rebranding to Sahl Finance in February 2023, operates as a Sharia-compliant real estate finance specialist. The company was founded through a partnership between Arab National Bank, Dar Al-Arkan, and the International Finance Corporation, a World Bank affiliate. SHL offers real estate financing, consumer financing, and small to medium-sized enterprise lending across Saudi Arabia under SAMA's regulatory supervision. The firm went public in 2022, marking a significant milestone in broadening its investor base and capital access.
Al-Shelash's reappointment signals continuity at a time when Saudi Arabia's property sector faces headwinds from subdued mortgage demand and increased housing costs. His dual stewardship of SHL and Dar Al-Arkan positions him to navigate interconnected challenges across both development and financing. The governance move may also be interpreted as management's signal of stability to investors, particularly given SHL's position as a relatively young public company still establishing consistent financial performance and market credibility within the Kingdom's competitive financial services landscape.
