Amanat Holdings PJSC, the Dubai-listed healthcare and education investment company, appointed Dr. Shamsheer Vayalil as Chairman of the Board of Directors following a board meeting on 28 December 2023. He replaced Hamad Abdulla Alshamsi in the role, while Abdulla Mohammed Hassan Mohammed Alhosani was appointed Vice Chairman.

The appointment reflected Amanat's stated commitment to driving strategic leadership and innovation in the healthcare and education sectors. Vayalil, who holds the position of largest individual shareholder in Amanat, said in a statement: "I am honored to take on the role of Chairman of Amanat Holdings. The company has a strong track record of investments in the healthcare and education sectors, and I look forward to working with the Board and management team to build on these successes and capitalize on new opportunities in the dynamic markets we operate in across the MENA region."

Vayalil is a radiologist by training who completed his MBBS at Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, and his MD in radiology from Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute in Chennai. He began his medical career as a radiologist at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City in Abu Dhabi before founding VPS Healthcare in 2007. He established LLH Hospital as his first facility and subsequently expanded VPS Healthcare to operate over 20 hospitals across three countries within a dozen years. Vayalil is founder and chairman of Burjeel Holdings, one of the largest healthcare services providers in the MENA region, which oversees brands including Burjeel, Medeor, Lifecare and Tajmeel.

Amanat Holdings is an integrated healthcare and education investment company listed on the Dubai Financial Market since 2014 with paid-up capital of AED 2.5 billion. Based in Dubai, the company establishes, acquires and integrates healthcare and education enterprises across the MENA region and beyond. Its healthcare portfolio includes Cambridge Medical and Rehabilitation Center in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, Sukoon in Jeddah, and Al-Malaki Specialist Hospital in Bahrain. Its education holdings comprise NEMA, a higher education provider in the UAE; Middlesex University Dubai, an overseas campus of the UK institution; and Human Development Company, which operates special education centres in Saudi Arabia.

The appointment signals Vayalil's deep immersion into Amanat's strategic direction, leveraging his extensive experience building and scaling healthcare operations across the region. The inference from the company's statement is that Amanat sought leadership capable of executing value-creation initiatives and generating shareholder returns within the MENA healthcare and education markets, areas where Vayalil has established a substantial track record through his flagship Burjeel Holdings.
