Africa Energy Indaba holds its nineteenth edition in Cape Town from the second to the fourth of March. The year is 2027. The organisers have confirmed the Cape Town International Convention Centre as the venue.

What the event is

Africa Energy Indaba is the continent's energy investment gathering, built around mobilising capital into African energy infrastructure. The nineteenth edition runs ministerial engagements alongside industry led conference tracks, a business matchmaking programme the organisers call B2B Connect, and an exhibition.

The stated programme priorities are renewables and clean technologies, transmission, distribution and grid resilience, gas to power and nuclear, and cross border energy trade through regional power pools. The organisers name their audience as government and regulators, independent power producers and utilities, investors and development finance institutions, and technology providers, and say the previous edition drew the South African President together with a bench of African energy ministers.

Why it matters to a board

Grid resilience and cross border trade are the two constraints that most often decide whether an African generation project reaches financial close, and both are policy questions before they are engineering ones. An event that puts regulators, utilities and development finance institutions in one room is therefore where the bankability of a pipeline gets tested, which is a different exercise from a technology exhibition.

The organisers publish no delegate, exhibitor or country counts for any edition, and the announcement is issued in the name of the organisers without naming a separate corporate entity.
