PACK EXPO International 2026 opens at McCormick Place in Chicago on the eighteenth of October and runs to the twenty first, bringing the packaging and processing equipment industry together for the largest edition of its biennial cycle.

The show is produced by PMMI, The Association for Packaging and Processing Technologies, which states that more than two thousand seven hundred exhibitors will take part and that it expects forty eight thousand packaging and processing professionals to attend. The exhibition runs from nine in the morning to five in the afternoon on the first three days and closes at three in the afternoon on the final day.

PACK EXPO International alternates with the association's other North American shows and is held only every second year, which concentrates product launches into a single week. For equipment makers it is the main commercial floor of the cycle, and for the consumer goods, pharmaceutical and food manufacturers who attend it is where capital equipment decisions for the following two years are shaped.

The event matters to a senior audience for a reason that is less about machinery than about cost structure. Packaging and processing equipment is where food, beverage, household goods and pharmaceutical manufacturers make their largest discretionary capital commitments, and the automation content of that equipment has risen sharply. Decisions taken on a show floor in a single week set labour requirements, line flexibility and energy consumption for years, which is why operations directors and chief supply chain officers attend in numbers rather than sending engineers alone.

The biennial rhythm also makes the show a readable indicator of industrial capital spending. Exhibitor numbers and floor take up are committed many months ahead, so a large edition reflects what equipment makers believed about demand when they booked rather than what they see on the day, and the orders written on the floor are a forward signal for manufacturing investment across several consumer sectors.

McCormick Place is the largest convention centre in North America and is one of the few venues in the United States able to hold the show at its full size.
