NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue, formerly Bellevue Hospital Center and Bellevue Hospital, is the oldest public hospital in the United States. The hospital traces its roots back to 1736 when a six-bed infirmary opened on the second floor of the New York City Almshouse. Located on First Avenue in the Kips Bay neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City, it has become a major academic medical institution of international renown.

The hospital operates an efficient, state-of-the-art Emergency Room as one of the largest in the city, and a Level I Trauma Center that delivers around-the-clock care in adult, pediatric, psychiatric and pediatric psychiatric emergencies. The hospital handles nearly 460,000 non-emergency outpatient clinic visits, nearly 106,000 emergency visits and some 30,000 inpatients each year. Affiliated with the NYU School of Medicine, NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue offers a wide range of medical, surgical, and psychiatric services and is a major referral center for highly complex cases. With a full-time attending physician staff of more than 1,200, the hospital is committed to delivering high-quality patient care, to preventing disease, and to educating medical professionals.

After 30 years of service at NYC Health + Hospitals, William Hicks stepped down as Chief Executive Officer of Bellevue after 11 years leading the hospital. Eric Wei, MD, MBA was appointed as CEO of Bellevue, effective January 6, 2025. Christopher G. Wilson, MSN, RN was named Chief Nursing Officer of NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue and serves as Deputy Executive Director of Nursing & Patient Care Services at the 1,215 bed flagship level 1 academic medical center.
