Becton, Dickinson and Company has appointed Arthur Hu as executive vice president and chief information and digital officer, the medical technology group announced on 21 September 2026. Hu takes up the role on 30 September 2026, succeeding Denise Russell Fleming, who will retire from the company at the end of 2026.
Hu will lead the information and digital agenda at the company, widely known as BD, as it works to modernise its enterprise and embed artificial intelligence and automation across how it operates. The appointment strengthens the senior leadership team as technology becomes more central to how medical technology companies design, make and deliver their products.
Hu joins from Lenovo Group, where he was senior vice president, global chief information officer and chief technology and delivery officer for the Solutions and Services Group. Earlier in his career he spent more than a decade at McKinsey and Company, advising organisations on technology, operations, strategy and transformation. In all he brings more than 25 years of experience leading global technology, digital and business transformation at scale.

Polen said Hu would play a critical role in building a faster, more productive and more connected BD, modernising the enterprise, embedding AI into how the company works, and translating technology into greater innovation and stronger business outcomes.

Hu's experience across enterprise technology at Lenovo and transformation advisory at McKinsey covers several of the priorities BD has set out for the next stage of its development.
The company has said that technology, including artificial intelligence and automation, is becoming central both to how medical technology firms operate and to how healthcare is delivered to patients around the world.
