Abdullah Al-Othaim Markets

Abdullah Al-Othaim Markets, Saudi Arabia's second-largest retailer, appointed Abdulmalik Abdullah Al Othaim as Executive Board Member and Managing Director, effective August 12, 2026, the company announced on the Saudi Exchange. The appointment fills a vacancy created by Muaffaq Abdullah Mobarah's resignation from his Executive Board Member position, which he submitted citing personal reasons on the same date. The appointment remains subject to ratification at the company's next General Assembly Meeting.

Abdulmalik Al Othaim brings significant experience across the Al-Othaim business ecosystem. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Suffolk University in the United States, which he completed in 2020. Prior to this appointment, he served as Chief Executive Officer of Abdullah Al Othaim Investment Company, the group's investment vehicle, and held the position of Vice President of Investments at Al Othaim Holding Company. His professional background also includes roles in equity research at Alpha Capital and previous positions within the Al-Othaim Markets organization itself, where he began in 2017. The company emphasized his extensive experience in retail, financial services, investments, and strategic planning as key qualifications for the role.

At Al Othaim Investment Company, Al Othaim oversaw the group's global and local investment activities and served as a member of the investment committee at Riva Investment Company, the group's global investment vehicle. He co-founded both Urubah Investment Company, where he served as Chief Investment Officer, and Hello for Information Systems Technology Company, where he serves as Chief Executive Officer. These ventures underscore his experience spanning retail operations, finance, real estate, and technology sectors within the Al-Othaim ecosystem.

Abdullah Al-Othaim Markets operates 476 stores across Saudi Arabia and Egypt, generating SAR 11.24 billion in revenue in 2025. The company, which traces its origins to a trading establishment founded in 1956 and went public in 2008, operates hypermarkets, supermarkets, wholesale outlets, and convenience stores. The retail group is chaired by Abdullah Saleh Al-Othaim, a billionaire businessman who also chairs Al Othaim Holding Company, the private entity controlling a 27.6 percent stake in the public company. Forbes 2025 rankings placed Abdullah Al-Othaim at number 1462 on the World's Billionaires list.

The appointment signals a generational transition within the Al-Othaim family business, which is expanding its investment and strategic planning capabilities at the executive board level. At approximately 30 years old, Al Othaim represents the emerging cohort of Gulf executives educated at international institutions who are navigating diversification strategies aligned with Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 economic transformation. His cross-functional roles spanning investment, technology, and operations suggest the board seeks to strengthen governance and strategic oversight during a period when the company operates across multiple geographies and business segments, including real estate and technology ventures beyond core grocery retail.
