Retal Urban Development Company announced on April 13, 2026 that it has appointed Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed Ahmed as Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately, while promoting founder Abdullah bin Faisal bin Abdulaziz AlBraikan to Managing Director. The dual leadership transition marks a strategic shift at the Saudi Arabian real estate developer, with the company creating the Managing Director position for the first time in its 14-year history. AlBraikan, who led Retal since its establishment in 2012, steps back into an elevated governance role while Ahmed assumes operational control of the company during a period of significant growth and expansion.

The Board of Directors approved both changes on April 12, 2026 following a governance review. Retal said the moves are part of its continued growth strategy and reflect a commitment to strengthening corporate governance practices to achieve strategic objectives and maximize shareholder value. The company did not name a search firm involved in identifying Ahmed, and no external recruitment consultants were publicly identified in the official announcements. The shifts come as Retal, listed on the Saudi Exchange under ticker 4322, pursues ambitious development projects including the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Al-Khobar and large-scale residential complexes across the kingdom.

AlBraikan brings over 15 years of experience in urban development and institutional transformation. He founded Retal in 2012 and served as CEO throughout its development from establishment to public listing, during which time he joined the Board of Directors in 2019. His background includes roles at Building Construction Company, Nesaj Projects Management, and Tadbeir Facilities Management. AlBraikan holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Architectural Engineering from Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University and has positioned himself as a thought leader in Saudi Arabia's housing and urban development initiatives. Ahmed, meanwhile, brings an extensive background spanning government, energy infrastructure, and institutional development. He previously served as President of Bahrain's Electricity and Water Authority and held senior positions including Minister of Cabinet Affairs and Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications in Bahrain's government. In the private sector, Ahmed served as Chief Operating Officer of the Bahrain Economic Development Board for eight years before entering public service. He holds a Master's degree in International Project Management from the University of Leeds and a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Bahrain.

Retal Urban Development is a Saudi Arabia-based real estate developer engaged in the construction and development of residential and commercial properties. Founded in 2012 and headquartered in Al-Khobar, Retal operates as a subsidiary of Al-Fozan Holding Company. The company has established a portfolio spanning mixed-use developments, residential complexes, and premium hospitality projects across major Saudi cities including Riyadh, Dammam, and Jeddah. In 2025, the company reported net profits attributable to owners of SAR 293.30 million, representing a 10.22 percent year-on-year increase, demonstrating consistent profitability during a period of significant capital deployment. Retal recently launched projects valued at over SAR 5 billion, including partnerships with Marriott International for luxury waterfront development.

The appointment of Ahmed signals potential strategic reorientation toward government-aligned infrastructure development and enhanced project financing structures, given his experience in public-sector capital allocation and transportation infrastructure. His background in handling large-scale utility systems and managing relationships with sovereign wealth entities could facilitate Retal's access to institutional financing and government partnerships, particularly as the company pursues mega-projects aligned with Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 diversification agenda. AlBraikan's transition to Managing Director may free him to focus on board-level strategy and stakeholder relations rather than day-to-day operational management, suggesting the Board expects Ahmed's government experience and international project management credentials to strengthen execution across Retal's expanding portfolio. The move carries implicit recognition that public-sector relationships and infrastructure development expertise may prove more valuable than founder-led entrepreneurial execution in the current Saudi real estate landscape.
