PZ Cussons Nigeria Plc has appointed Oghale Elueni as its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, effective 1 June 2026. The appointment places a long serving group insider at the head of one of the country's best known consumer goods companies as it works to consolidate a recovery in profitability.

Elueni was most recently Managing Director of the company's Consumer business, and had served since 2023 as Managing Director for the Africa Consumer Business of the wider PZ Cussons group, a role in which he oversaw operations across several African markets. He joined the group in 2021, bringing experience gathered over a career in multinational consumer goods that included senior commercial roles at Procter and Gamble and SC Johnson.

A graduate of Microbiology from the University of Ibadan, Elueni also completed executive studies at Cornell University's SC Johnson College of Business. Directors point to his commercial background and familiarity with the Nigerian market as central to the board's decision, stating that his leadership capabilities, commercial experience and understanding of the business would support the company's continued growth and strategic direction.

He succeeds Dimitrios Kostianis, who is stepping down after around three years as Chief Executive. The transition is presented as an orderly handover, with Kostianis having led the business through a period in which the company sought to rebuild margins and steady its footing in an operating environment marked by currency pressure and rising input costs.

PZ Cussons Nigeria is listed on the Nigerian Exchange and forms part of the international PZ Cussons group. Its portfolio spans personal care, home care and nutrition brands that are long established in Nigerian households, and the company has been navigating the twin challenges of inflation and foreign exchange volatility that have reshaped the consumer sector across the country.

Elueni takes over at a moment when the company has signalled the beginnings of a profit recovery, and his mandate is widely read as one of continuity rather than rupture. His familiarity with the group's African operations positions him to press ahead with the existing strategy, which emphasises brand investment, distribution reach and cost discipline. The appointment also underscores a broader pattern of consumer goods multinationals promoting regional operators with direct market experience into their most senior national roles.

The change at the top comes alongside wider board level adjustments at the company, part of a leadership refresh intended to align the executive team with the next phase of its plans. For a business whose brands are staples in millions of Nigerian homes, the choice of a home grown leader with group wide experience is likely to be received as a steadying signal by investors and trade partners alike.
