Brazos Residential Appoints Wyatt Simmons as Chief Investment Officer

Brazos Residential, a Dallas-based multifamily real estate private equity firm, appointed Wyatt Simmons as Chief Investment Officer effective immediately on June 18, 2026. The promotion marks a significant advancement for Simmons, who has been instrumental in the firm's rapid expansion since joining in late 2022, when Brazos owned approximately 2,000 units. Under his contributions to capital sourcing and acquisition strategy, the firm has grown to manage over 7,000 units and more than 800 million dollars in assets under management.

Simmons was previously serving as Vice President of Acquisitions at Brazos Residential following an earlier role as Director of Capital Markets. James Roberts, President and Co-Founder, described Simmons' appointment as a natural fit, stating that his track record in the multifamily sector and comprehensive understanding of capital markets make him invaluable to the leadership team. Roberts noted that Simmons' experience identifying unique opportunities and leadership capabilities will support the firm's continued strategic growth. No search firm involvement was disclosed in the announcement.

Simmons brings nearly a decade of multifamily real estate experience spanning asset management, acquisitions, and capital sourcing. Throughout his career, he has been involved in originating and executing more than 3.5 billion dollars in debt and equity transactions across the commercial real estate sector, including approximately 2.5 billion dollars in multifamily capitalizations. Prior to joining Brazos Residential, he held senior capital markets roles at Jones Lang LaSalle, where he assisted with closing and sourcing over 3 billion dollars in debt and equity transactions including 1.9 billion dollars in multifamily and agency loans, and at Bank of America, where he managed portfolios secured by real estate assets. Simmons holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin and is based in Dallas.

Brazos Residential, founded in January 2022 without institutional backing by James Roberts and William Hancock, operates as a fully integrated vertically-integrated real estate platform encompassing investment management, property management through Brazos Residential Management, and construction management through Brazos Construction Management. The firm employs over 200 professionals and focuses on workforce and Class B/C multifamily housing in high-growth Sun Belt markets. Roberts, who previously ranked third overall at NorthMarq Multifamily nationally in 2021 and was personally involved in over 1 billion dollars in multifamily asset sales, has built the platform to capture value-add and opportunistic acquisitions near major employment centers.

Simmons' elevation to CIO reflects broader portfolio consolidation within Brazos's leadership ranks. His appointment comes on the heels of a parallel announcement promoting Cliff Davis, an Investment Professional who joined the firm in 2022, to Junior Partner. This dual promotion suggests the firm is entrenching its recent acquisition team into permanent governance roles even as expansion accelerates. The timing indicates that after capturing nearly 5,000 units of growth in under four years, leadership views the capital markets and acquisitions functions as sufficiently strategically central to warrant executive oversight, signaling potential continued asset growth through institutional relationships Simmons developed at JLL and Bank of America.
