Rick Menell

Rick Menell was appointed as independent Non-Executive Chairman of Perseus Mining Limited in August 2024. His career has spanned over 45 years mainly in the international mining industry, and he has a deep understanding of the people and the mining industry on the African continent through a variety of family investments, as well as senior roles with leading South African corporates and nonprofit-sector enterprises.

Menell holds an MA in geology from Cambridge and an MSc in mineral exploration from Stanford. He was trained as an exploration geologist and worked as an investment banker with JP Morgan in New York and Australia. After serving as an executive with Delta Gold in Australia, he returned to South Africa in 1991 to join Anglovaal Mining.

Menell served as President of the South African Chamber of Mines, Chair of the South African Tourism Board, and for many years was a Senior Adviser to Credit Suisse. He remains active in a range of non-profit organisations and public-private partnerships focussed on youth development and infrastructure rehabilitation in Southern Africa.
