ProMat 2027 Returns to McCormick Place for the Supply Chain Industry

ProMat returns to Chicago for three days in April, opening on the nineteenth and closing on the twenty-first. The year is 2027. The show is owned and run by MHI, and the association's own publication places it at McCormick Place, the venue that has hosted the alternating ProMat and MODEX cycle for years.

The association describes itself as the largest material handling, logistics and supply chain body in the United States, and the show is its principal shop window. The exhibit floor runs from conveyors, racking and lift trucks through to warehouse execution software, robotics and the integration work that ties them together, with a keynote programme built around the association's annual industry report.

Why it matters this cycle

Warehouse and distribution investment has been through a full boom and correction. Capacity added quickly during the online retail surge was followed by a period of digestion in which operators slowed new leasing and focused on getting more throughput out of buildings they already had. That has changed what gets bought: the growth is in automation and software retrofitted into existing facilities rather than in greenfield capacity.

Labour is the other half of the story. Distribution centres remain hard to staff, turnover is high and wage pressure has not fully receded, which is why the return on an automation project now pencils out in places it did not five years ago. Robotics vendors at the show are selling against a labour line rather than against a competitor, and that framing has pulled chief financial officers into decisions that used to sit with operations.

For an executive audience the show is one of the clearer reads available on industrial capital spending intentions. Order commitments taken on the floor feed equipment backlogs that run well into the following year, and the association's own industry report, presented in the keynote programme, is among the better surveyed views of where the sector thinks demand is heading.

Registration, the education programme and the exhibitor directory are published by the organiser and are updated through the year ahead of the show.
