Spelman College is a private, historically Black, women's liberal arts college in Atlanta, Georgia. Founded in 1881 as the Atlanta Baptist Female Seminary by Sophia B. Packard and Harriet E. Giles, the college awarded its first degrees in 1901 and is the oldest private historically Black liberal arts institution for women. Located in Atlanta, the College's picturesque campus is home to 2,700 students and is recognized as the global leader in the education of women of African descent.

Spelman is a founding member of the Atlanta University Center academic consortium. The college is the country's leading producer of Black women who complete Ph.D.s in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). Spelman offers 31 majors in the arts, humanities, social sciences, mathematics and the sciences.

U.S. News & World Report ranked Spelman No. 37 among all liberal arts colleges, No. 1 for the 19th year among historically Black colleges and universities, and No. 2 for social mobility among liberal arts colleges.
