Manulife Financial Corporation was officially incorporated on June 23, 1887, under an Act of Parliament, initially as The Manufacturers Life Insurance Company. The original location was in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, which remains its global headquarters today. The company offers life, health and income insurance protection, as well as annuities and wealth and asset management.

Its principal operations are located in Canada, the United States and Asia. As of 2025, Manulife has 37,000 employees and reported revenue of $27.7 billion USD, with a market capitalization of $59.1 billion USD. The company has $1.6 trillion in Assets Under Management and Administration (AUMA) as of the first quarter of 2025. In 2004, Manulife completed a $15 billion merger with US insurance company John Hancock Financial Services, creating the fifth largest life insurance company worldwide; the global headquarters remained in Toronto and the combined entity kept the Manulife Financial name while retaining the John Hancock brand in the US.
