KKR was founded in 1976 by Jerome Kohlberg Jr., and cousins Henry Kravis and George R. Roberts, all of whom had previously worked together at Bear Stearns, where they completed some of the earliest leveraged buyout transactions. KKR's headquarters are situated in New York City, New York, serving as a central hub for its global operations. Operating with a significant international footprint, KKR maintains 15 locations worldwide, underscoring its extensive operational reach.

KKR operates across three business areas: asset management (public and private credit, private equity, infrastructure, real estate and capital markets), insurance (Global Atlantic) and Strategic Holdings. As of March 31, 2026, KKR had assets under management (AUM) of approximately $758 billion, making it one of the world's largest alternative asset management firms. The firm employs 1,000-5,000 employees dedicated to its investment strategies. In 2024 the company made a revenue of $21.64 Billion USD, an increase over the revenue in the year 2023 that were of $14.32 Billion USD.

KKR's insurance subsidiaries offer retirement, life and reinsurance products under the management of Global Atlantic Financial Group. KKR & Co. Inc. announced that it has closed its previously announced acquisition of Arctos Partners, a premier institutional investor in professional sports franchise stakes globally and a leader in asset management solutions for sponsors.

Recent Leadership

In 2021, Joseph Bae and Scott Nuttall were named co-CEOs of KKR after serving as co-presidents since 2017. KKR announced a newly promoted group of 8 Partners and 39 Managing Directors, effective January 1, 2026.
