Al Masaood Group, one of Abu Dhabi's longest-established diversified business houses, has appointed Irfan Tansel as interim Group Managing Director as it converts into a Private Joint Stock Company. The Group announced the change on 1 September 2026, presenting it as part of a wider corporate transformation intended to strengthen governance, improve transparency and prepare the organisation for its next phase of growth.
In the interim role, Tansel will oversee the Group's strategic direction, operational performance and financial delivery. He will also represent Al Masaood in its engagements with government entities, financial institutions, business partners and other stakeholders, placing him at the centre of the conglomerate's move to the new corporate structure.
Tansel takes on the Group mandate while continuing to serve as Chief Executive Officer of Al Masaood Automobiles, the authorised dealer of Nissan, INFINITI and Renault across Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Al Dhafra region. He brings more than four decades of leadership experience, with a record of building teams and driving performance across the businesses he has led. Under his leadership, Al Masaood Automobiles has delivered record results across sales, aftersales and customer experience.
The appointment says as much about structure as about the individual. Al Masaood's shift to a Private Joint Stock Company is the kind of step that established Gulf family groups increasingly take as they professionalise: separating ownership from management, formalising board oversight and building a governance framework capable of supporting external financing or a broader investor base over time. Naming a sitting operating chief executive as interim Group Managing Director gives the transition continuity, keeping commercial momentum intact while the new company form is put in place.
The choice also signals where the Group sees its recent success. Al Masaood Automobiles has been the visible engine of group performance, and elevating the executive who led that business to a Group-wide interim role suggests the operating disciplines applied there are the template the leadership wants extended across the wider portfolio. The interim designation leaves room for a permanent structure once the Private Joint Stock Company is fully established.
Khalifa Al Masaood, Chairman of the Shareholders' Supervisory Board, described the move as an important moment in the continued evolution of Al Masaood, saying the Group needed the right leadership to guide it through its next phase of growth. He pointed to the gains achieved under Tansel at Al Masaood Automobiles as the basis for his confidence in the expanded appointment.
Al Masaood Group operates across the automotive, energy, industrial and commercial sectors in the United Arab Emirates, and remains one of Abu Dhabi's most prominent privately held groups. The interim leadership appointment, combined with the corporate restructuring, positions the business to pursue longer-term growth under a more formalised governance model.
