Steve Demetriou

Steven J. Demetriou served as CEO of Jacobs (formerly Jacobs Engineering Group) from 2015 to 2023 and now serves as Executive Chair. Age 66, Demetriou holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Tufts University and brings over 35 years of global executive leadership experience across a broad range of industries. During his tenure as CEO, Steve led a significant transformation of Jacobs' business portfolio, operations, and corporate culture. Under his leadership, the company delivered sustained profitable growth and increased market capitalization by more than $11 billion, representing a 244 percent increase.

Demetriou's seven-year tenure as chief executive is marked by transformation involving the engineering giant's federal business. From 1981 to 1997, he served in increasingly responsible management positions with Exxon Corporation, and from 1997 to 1999 held various leadership positions with Cytec Industries Inc., including Vice President of global specialty resins and President of Cytec Asia. In addition to serving on Jacobs' Board, Steve also serves on the board for Arcosa, Inc and FirstEnergy Corp.

Steve was named CEO in 2015, just the fourth person to hold the title in the company's 73 year history, and the first to be brought in from outside the firm. At Davos, Steve was named co-chair of the world economic forums, infrastructure, and urban development governor's community. Demetriou is a CEO member of the Male Champions of Change, the Co-Chair of the World Economic Forum's Infrastructure and Urban Development Governors, and a member of WEF's Alliance of CEO Climate Leaders.
