Phoenix Hospitality Group, the UAE-born hospitality operator spanning hotels, restaurants, nightlife and lifestyle ventures, has appointed Manish Ahluwalia as Group Chief Executive Officer effective October 2026. The move marks a strategic shift for the nine-year-old group as it prepares to evolve from a regional operator into a globally scalable platform, with expansion targeted across the Middle East, Africa, Europe and South West Asia through investment, leasing, franchising and strategic partnerships.
Ahluwalia brings more than two decades of international hospitality experience from IHG Hotels and Resorts, where he held senior leadership positions across multiple markets including Australia, China, Mauritius, Angola and the UAE. His most recent assignment saw him serve as Chief Operating Officer of a 20-hotel master development on Dubai's World Islands, known as The Heart of Europe, overseeing the full hospitality lifecycle from master planning through design, construction, branding and commercial launch. Prior to his IHG tenure, he worked as a restaurateur and operations director in Australia and India between 2001 and 2004, specializing in pre-opening restaurant operations. Ahluwalia holds a degree in Hotel and Tourism Management from Griffith University on Australia's Gold Coast and is certified by the American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute.
At Phoenix Hospitality Group, Ahluwalia will oversee strategic and operational direction while strengthening the group's corporate structure and building a robust pipeline of new opportunities. His mandate encompasses improving the performance and market positioning of existing assets, creating disciplined financial governance and developing international growth capabilities. The appointment signals PHG's commitment to transitioning from an investor and concept-led platform into a structured, financially disciplined hospitality operator. During his IHG career, Ahluwalia managed properties serving heads of state, senior government officials and international delegations, demonstrating expertise in high-protocol hospitality operations. He is known for translating ambitious ideas into commercially successful and internationally recognized brands.
Founded in 2017, Phoenix Hospitality Group operates more than 15 hospitality destinations across the UAE with a diversified portfolio spanning accommodation, dining, nightlife and lifestyle experiences. Its hotel division includes properties under the Luxe Hotels brand, notably Luxe Grand Hotel, Luxe Avenue Hotel and Luxe Retreat Hotel Apartment in Dubai. The group's food and beverage portfolio encompasses heritage dining, contemporary restaurants and entertainment venues including Jodhpur Bar & Kitchen, Pahadi, Batliwala and Co., Tiger Bar Stock Exchange, The Groove House and Hitchki. This multi-format portfolio reflects PHG's stated vision of creating distinctive hospitality experiences across multiple market segments rather than competing solely on standardized hotel operations.
Ahluwalia's appointment signals that Phoenix Hospitality Group intends to professionalize its organizational infrastructure and pursue disciplined international expansion, departing from the more entrepreneurial, regionally focused model that characterized its founding phase. His deep experience across both established international hotel brands and large-scale development projects positions him to address a common challenge facing ambitious regional hospitality groups: scaling beyond initial home markets while maintaining operational consistency and financial rigor. The appointment may imply that the group's existing leadership structure, while successful in establishing a strong UAE presence, requires the corporate governance capabilities and multi-market experience that a veteran of IHG's global operations can provide. The emphasis on building a people-first culture and robust operational pipelines suggests PHG recognizes that growth beyond the UAE will depend on organizational capability and talent development, not merely asset acquisition or brand partnerships.
