SMBC is a Japanese multinational banking financial services institution owned by the Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group, headquartered in Marunouchi, Chiyoda, Tokyo, Japan. SMBC was established in 2001 through the merger of the Sakura Bank and The Sumitomo Bank. SMBC Group is the second-largest of Japan's three megabanks, with $2 trillion of total assets at end-March 2023, and maintains a presence in over 40 countries and maintains a presence in all International Financial Centres as the 12th biggest bank in the world by total assets.

SMBC Group appointed Elaine He as Head of Debt Capital Markets Syndicate and Co-Head of Debt Capital Markets for Asia Pacific excluding Japan, effective May 11. SMBC appointed Donna Hart as Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) for its Americas Division, a veteran leader with over 30 years of experience previously serving as CISO at Ally Financial.
