Target has appointed Mark Weinstein as chief marketing and guest experience officer, the United States retailer announced on 14 September 2026, with the appointment effective immediately. Weinstein reports to chief executive Michael Fiddelke. The company did not name a predecessor in the role.

In the combined remit, Weinstein takes responsibility for marketing and for the guest experience across Target's stores and digital channels, bringing the retailer's brand-building and customer-experience work under a single senior leader.

Weinstein joins from Hilton, where he was global chief marketing officer. In that role he oversaw the hotel group's 28 brands and its Hilton Honors loyalty programme, and led its luxury brands. Over the course of his career he has developed brands, platforms and customer experiences across the consumer sector.

"Mark has a proven ability to understand what consumers value and turn those insights into brand connections that feel relevant and personal," said Michael Fiddelke, chief executive of Target.

Weinstein said he was drawn to the retailer's distinctive position. "Target is an iconic brand with the rare ability to be both deeply familiar and continually surprising," he said.

Target describes itself as a retailer that brings together style, design and value, offering a distinct assortment and an elevated shopping experience across more than 2,000 stores in the United States and online. The company employs more than 400,000 team members and says it serves millions of families each week.

By pairing marketing with guest experience in one office, Target signals an intent to align how the brand is communicated with how customers are served in its aisles and online. The move gives a single executive oversight of both the messages the retailer sends and the experience shoppers encounter, at a time when retail differentiation increasingly turns on the two together.

The appointment underlines the weight large retailers are placing on marketing and customer experience as they compete for shoppers across physical stores and digital channels. Weinstein's background in consumer brands and loyalty at Hilton spans several of the areas Target has identified as central to how it connects with its guests.

Weinstein arrives at Target as the retailer competes with rivals and online marketplaces for shoppers’ attention and spending. His remit brings together the disciplines of brand marketing and store and digital experience, two areas that large retailers increasingly treat as inseparable. At Hilton he built experience across a broad portfolio of consumer brands and a large loyalty programme, work that maps onto the scale of Target’s customer base and its national store network.
