SiriusXM has promoted Sean Gibbons to senior vice president and chief product and technology officer, the New York audio company said in an announcement issued on 8 September 2026. Gibbons reports to chief executive Jennifer Witz and joins the company's executive leadership team.
In the role Gibbons leads product and technology across both SiriusXM and Pandora. His remit covers product strategy and development, technology platforms and engineering, automotive and streaming distribution partnerships, and advertising technology, placing product and technology responsibility for both listening platforms with a single executive.
The company presented the move as an internal elevation rather than an outside hire, with Gibbons stepping up from an existing leadership post and the reporting lines for product and technology settling under him as part of an orderly transition at the top of the function.
Gibbons joined the company in 2000, before its first satellite launch, and has spent more than two decades with the business. He has held leadership roles spanning product management, engineering, automotive, streaming, content technology and strategic partnerships. During that period he established the company's first formal product management organisation and later founded and led its first streaming organisation, extending the SiriusXM experience across mobile, web and connected home platforms.
Most recently Gibbons led the SiriusXM automotive organisation, bringing together product, user experience, engineering and automotive partnerships to advance in-vehicle experiences and relationships with automakers. The company said he has played a central role in its evolution toward connected, software defined vehicle experiences and hybrid satellite and IP services.
SiriusXM set out four priorities for the new role: advancing SiriusXM with 360L and the next generation of in-car experiences; shaping the long term technology roadmap supporting the satellite, broadcast and streaming platforms; applying artificial intelligence to improve personalisation, discovery and customer service; and creating more dynamic, connected and participatory experiences across in-vehicle and streaming platforms.
Witz said Gibbons has helped shape SiriusXM through some of its most important product and technology transformations, including the development and successful rollout of SiriusXM with 360L, and described him as the right person to help accelerate innovation and improve the customer experience.
Gibbons said the company can pair the reach and reliability of satellite with the flexibility of streaming and the intelligence of artificial intelligence to help listeners discover programming and stay connected wherever they listen.
The appointment matters commercially because SiriusXM reaches approximately 255 million monthly listeners across its platforms and depends on deep automotive manufacturer relationships and its spectrum assets to reach those listeners. Consolidating product, engineering, automotive distribution and advertising technology under one officer gives the company a single point of accountability for the in-car and streaming products that carry its subscription and advertising revenue.
