GT Independence is a financial management services company for self-directed care, based in Sturgis, Michigan. It supports people who choose and manage their own care workers rather than receive services through a traditional agency.
The company says it serves more than 60,000 people who are self directing their care in more than 21 states. It was founded by John Carmichael, who remains on its board, and Chris Karkenny was named chief executive officer in August 2026.
