Sonia Kwami

Sonia Kwami was appointed Vice President of Oceana's Ghana office in March 2026, leading the organization's inaugural African operations. She brings more than 22 years of experience leading high-impact campaigns, building diverse coalitions, and influencing policy across Africa and globally. Her campaigns have covered climate justice, economic justice, gender equitable education, public health, job creation, and poverty eradication across Ghana, Africa, and globally. She is recognized as a major voice of influence across African and global policy making.

In her new role, Kwami oversees Oceana's operations in Ghana and leads campaigns developed in allyship with fish-reliant communities to rebuild fisheries, boost food and nutrition security, and safeguard coastal livelihoods. Her appointment coincides with the establishment of Oceana's first office not only in Ghana but across Africa.
