Simon Cowell

Simon Phillip Cowell was born on October 7, 1959, in Lambeth, London, and raised in Elstree, Hertfordshire. His mother, Julie Brett, was a ballet dancer and socialite, and his father, Eric Selig Phillip Cowell, was an estate agent, property developer, and music industry executive. Cowell attended Dover College but left after taking GCE O levels.

After some success in the 1980s and 1990s as a record producer, talent agent and consultant in the British music industry, Cowell came to public prominence in 2001 as a judge on Pop Idol. He also became a judge on the first season of American Idol in 2002. Cowell founded the British entertainment company Syco Entertainment in 2005, as well as its defunct predecessor, Syco Music (also known as S Records) in 2002. His company, Syco Entertainment is one of the world's leading music, film, and TV production companies, responsible for launching the careers of artists including One Direction, Camila Cabello, Little Mix, Labrinth, James Arthur, and Grace VanderWaal.

Cowell, credited with discovering One Direction, Camila Cabello, Leona Lewis, and Labrinth, invested in Lounges.tv, a new online streaming platform that streams content from rising content creators including aspiring musicians, comedians and fitness trainers. In October 2023, Cowell bought a stake in the startup, which was close to completing a £2.5 million funding round valuing the business at £20 million. He expressed interest in the platform because creators get paid within 24 hours, citing this as "a really good idea and hopefully will make a difference."
