Darragh O’Brien

Darragh O'Brien (born 8 July 1974) is an Irish Fianna Fáil politician who was appointed Minister for Transport and Minister for Climate, Energy and the Environment in January 2025. He represents the Dublin Fingal East constituency as a Teachta Dála (TD) and was born and raised in Malahide, County Dublin.

O'Brien attended Pope John Paul II National Catholic School and then Malahide Community School, before pursuing higher education at the Institute of Technology, Carlow. Prior to his election to the 30th Dáil in 2007, he worked mainly in Financial Services and was elected to Fingal County Council in 2004.

O'Brien served as Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage from 2020 to 2025. During this tenure, he oversaw the delivery of 110,000 new homes in the first two years of the Housing for All programme, and spearheaded cost rental schemes with close to 4,000 units approved. He was elected to Seanad Éireann in 2011 and held various Oireachtas positions including Vice-Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee, Leader of Fianna Fáil in the Seanad, and Opposition Frontbench Spokesperson on Housing.
