U.S. Soccer Federation

Founded on April 5, 1913 at the Astor House Hotel in Lower Manhattan, U.S. Soccer is one of the earlier federations to affiliate with FIFA and the first from the North and Central American region to join FIFA's global governing structure. The National Training Center and headquarters opened on May 7, 2026 in Fayette County, Georgia, following the previous relocation from Colorado Springs, Colorado to Chicago in 1991.

U.S. Soccer serves as the official governing body for soccer in the United States, and it is tasked with organizing national teams, sanctioning professional and amateur leagues, overseeing refereeing and coaching standards, and promoting the game at all levels across the country. Throughout its history, U.S. Soccer has presided over a significant expansion of soccer's popularity and infrastructure, from grassroots youth participation to professional leagues such as Major League Soccer (MLS), and the national teams, youth and senior.

The organization has between 51-200 core employees and operates with a simple and clear mission: to make soccer, in all its forms, a preeminent sport in the United States and to continue the development of soccer at all recreational and competitive levels.

Recent Leadership News

In April 2026, the U.S. Soccer Federation announced that Sporting Director Matt Crocker departed the organization to pursue another opportunity in international soccer. Chief Operating Officer Dan Helfrich provided executive oversight across the Federation's sporting operations, working closely with Assistant Sporting Director Oguchi "Gooch" Onyewu.
