Qatar Olympic Committee (2036 Olympic and Paralympic Games Bid)

The QOC plays a crucial role in fostering and promoting Olympic values and physical activity throughout Qatar, and empowering Team Qatar to achieve excellence on the global stage. Collaborating closely with 23 National Federations, the QOC provides support to athletes, coaches and officials across all levels of the sporting pathway, from grassroots development to international competitions. The organization is a nonprofit with headquarters in West Bay, Doha.

In July 2025, the Qatar Olympic Committee announced the creation of a bid committee for the 2036 Olympics and Paralympic Games, confirming its intention to host the event. According to QOC president Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, Qatar currently has 95% of the required sports infrastructure in place to host the Games. If successful, a Doha bid would make Qatar the first country in the Middle East to host the Olympics.

The Qatar Olympic Committee had annual revenue of $18.5 million in 2026 and employs 425 people. In April 2026, the QOC convened its 39th General Assembly meeting under the chairmanship of QOC President Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani, with attendance from the First Vice President, Second Vice President, Secretary General, and representatives of affiliated sports federations.

Recent Leadership News

Sheikh Joaan was elected President of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) in January 2026 and oversaw the organization of three consecutive Games: the Asian Beach Games in Sanya, the Asian Summer Games in Japan, and the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Saudi Arabia.
