Company Overview
Boursa Kuwait is the operator of Kuwait's securities market, established in 2014 to take over the running of the Kuwait Stock Exchange. The exchange it succeeded was founded in 1977 as the first securities exchange in the Gulf Cooperation Council region and was reorganised in 1983. Boursa Kuwait runs the market's Premier and Main segments and provides listing, trading and market data services to issuers and investors.
The company completed a two-stage privatisation. In February 2019 a 44 percent equity stake was awarded to an international exchange operator and a group of Kuwaiti investment companies. In December 2019 the Capital Markets Authority offered its 50 percent stake to Kuwaiti citizens in a public offering that was oversubscribed by roughly 850 percent, completing the process and making Boursa Kuwait the only stock exchange in the Middle East wholly owned by the private sector. It self-listed on its own Premier Market in September 2020.
