American University of Sharjah (AUS) is a private university in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, founded in 1997 by Sultan bin Muhammad Al-Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. As a private institution, AUS is an independent, non-profit, coeducational institution of higher education formed on the American liberal arts model, acclaimed for its academic excellence and multicultural environment.
Located in University City in Sharjah, AUS has more than 5,000 students from more than 94 countries and a full-time faculty of more than 360 from 48 countries. In 2025, AUS announced that it offered 33 undergraduate majors, 48 undergraduate minors, 20 master's degrees and eight PhD programs across four academic units: the College of Architecture, Art and Design, the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Engineering, and the School of Business Administration. The university is licensed by the Commission for Academic Accreditation of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (UAE) and accredited in the United States by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.
