Barclays Private Bank has appointed former Emirates NBD private banking executive Lama Aboufakhr to lead the team of bankers covering the Middle East from London.

Aboufakhr has taken on the new role in January will lead a team of private bankers that cover the Middle East business from London. The pivot marks her return to the British lender.

‘It is a pleasure to return to the firm where I originally began my career in London,’ she said in the post. ‘Following 10 great years at Emirates NBD where I was most recently head of private banking in London, I am looking forward to bringing my regional experience to this new role.’

She held various roles during her 10-year stint at Emirates NBD, including head of business coverage for the private bank. Prior to that, she worked at Barclays as a London-based private banker. She also spent over five years at Fidelity Investments.

The hire marks a concerted push from Barclays to ramp up its private banking presence across the Middle East, following the hire of Farzad Billimoria from HSBC Private Bank last year. The bank underwent a restructure to its market coverage roles to simplify its local business structures, removing the India-based Asia private banking head role.
