Georges Elhedery

Georges Elhedery was appointed Group Chief Executive of HSBC Holdings plc on September 2, 2024, succeeding Noel Quinn who retired after five years in the role. Born in Beirut, Lebanon, circa 1974, Elhedery grew up during the Lebanese Civil War and holds French nationality. He holds a degree in Engineering from École Polytechnique in Paris and a postgraduate degree in Statistics and Economics from École Nationale de la Statistique et de l'Administration Économique.

Elhedery began his banking career with Banque Paribas in Tokyo in 1997, then worked for Goldman Sachs from 2001 to 2005 before joining HSBC. Upon joining HSBC in 2005, he brought extensive trading experience from London, Paris and Tokyo. In 2022, he took a six-month sabbatical to learn Mandarin, demonstrating his commitment to international expertise. He speaks fluent Arabic, French, English, German, and Spanish, with proficiency in Japanese.
